The Most Unique Drink Texture: Nutrishake Jelly Drink Coconut Review

4–6 minutes

I have this habit of buying a snack or drink on my way home from work. While commuting, I like stopping by a convenience store and exploring new food I have never tried before. Something about this post work brain fog makes random food experiments feel justified.

That is how I ended up grabbing this Nutrishake Jelly Drink Coconut at 7-Eleven for ₱46. The bottle looked interesting and the label made me think it was something similar to Mogu Mogu Nata de Coco Drink, so I just grabbed it without much overthinking.

What Is Nutrishake Jelly Drink?

Nutrishake Jelly Drink, also called the Nutrishake Jelly Shake, is a ready-to-drink beverage with chewy nata de coco pieces and jelly inside. It’s from Indonesia, manufactured by PT. Aloe Vera under the Nutrishake brand.

The drink was made for export to the Philippines and is also available locally in convenience stores and online via Shopee and Lazada. It also comes in four flavors:

  • Coconut
  • Lychee
  • Guava
  • Orange

The label instructs you to shake well before drinking, which makes sense because a lot of jellies settle at the bottom if you don’t.

First Impressions

The bottle is compact and easy to hold. Before shaking, you can see the jelly pieces not at the bottom though just all around the bottle.

Once you take your first sip, you immediately feel the jellies in your mouth and it feels like crushed Jelly Ace (a popular Filipino fruit jelly cup brand) but just a bit juicier.

So What Does It Taste Like?

It really does taste like Mogu Mogu flavor-wise and only its interesting texture sets it aside from it. The liquid part has a light, sweet coconut-ish flavor, but it is not overpowering.

The jelly pieces are soft, bubbly, and just slightly chewy enough to be satisfying without being a choking hazard. They dissolve gently as you chew, similar to a soft gelatin dessert.

It does not taste artificial or chemical-like. It’s sweet, mild, and honestly quite pleasant. If you enjoy the texture of gelatin-based snacks, you will probably like this.

It is however not really a thirst-quenching drink. There is not enough liquid to satisfy that thirst. It is more of a flavor and texture experience than something you would chug after a workout or tiring day. Think of it as a liquid snack rather than a real beverage.

The One Downside

The jellies tend to get stuck at the bottom.

Even after shaking, the liquid drains fairly quickly while a good portion of the jelly pieces stay clumped near the bottom. By the time you hit the end, you are trying to suck out stubborn little jelly blobs that just stick.

I mean you can still get it if you shake hard enough.

It is not a dealbreaker, but it is a little annoying. I ended up shaking it hard enough for it to come loose and was holding the bottle up for a good few seconds which is not exactly a glamorous look in public.

Lychee Version and Other Flavors

I also tried the Lychee flavor out of curiosity some few days ago and they taste almost the same.

The difference is very subtle. The Lychee version has a slightly more floral and fruity note upfront and looks pink, but once the jellies kick in, they both feel like you are eating the same thing. If someone blindfolded me and handed me both, I might not be able to tell them apart on the first sip.

If you enjoy one, you will likely enjoy the other.

I haven’t tried the other flavors though but I’m sure the texture is identical across both.

Price and Where to Buy

I bought this at 7-Eleven for ₱46, which I think is a fair price for what it is. It is not cheap cheap, but it is not expensive either.

If you want to stock up or can’t find it in your local 7-Eleven, you can also order it online through Shopee and Lazada.

Nutrition Breakdown (Coconut Flavor)

At 187 kcal per bottle, this is fairly light for a snack drink. You are not blowing your daily calorie budget on this one.

The 40g of sugar is the main thing to watch out for. It’s a high for a single drink. It’s roughly equivalent to eating about ten teaspoons of sugar in one sitting. It is not something you should be drinking daily if you are mindful of your sugar intake.

The zero protein and zero fiber means this will not keep you full at all. It is purely a snack for enjoyment, not a meal replacement.

The sodium at 75mg is relatively moderate for a processed drink, which is a small plus.

Drinking this occassionally is fine. Once or twice a week at most if you are watching your sugar. It is not a health drink by any stretch, but it is also not the worst offender on 7-Eleven shelves. Just do not make it a daily habit and you should be okay.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I would rate this an 8 out of 10.

The texture experience alone is worth trying at least once. It is genuinely fun to drink, the jelly pieces are satisfying, and it does not taste artificial.

The only things pulling the score down are the jelly-stuck-at-the-bottom issue and the high sugar content, which makes it a sometimes drink rather than an everyday one. Also, the flavor difference between variants is so subtle it almost makes trying multiple flavors feel pointless.
