Century Tuna Super Bowl Rice Meal Sisig Taste Review: Good or Weird?

3–5 minutes

I recently started stocking up our pantry at home. Before, I usually just bought instant noodles and biscuits, then made it a “pay or loan” system for family members to help refill supplies.

But recently, I wanted to upgrade our pantry with more canned food and frozen goods that are ready to eat and do not require payment or preparation. Just grab and eat.

I also like variety when it comes to easy food, different brands, different flavors. So when I saw Century Tuna Spicy Tuna Sisig Rice, I got curious. I thought it was just flavored canned tuna like the usual 555 Tuna variants such as Bicol Express.

Turns out, I was very wrong.

There’s Canned Rice?

The moment I opened it, I was shocked. There was actual rice inside the can.

I had never heard of canned rice before.

And because I am the lazy type who avoids extra effort, I did not heat it up. It says ready to eat anyway, so I went straight in. Heating is just for better enjoyment, right?

So What Does It Taste Like?

It tasted like tuna with soy sauce, slightly sour, with a very mild liver-like hint and a bit of spice. It is not overly salty, which is actually a plus.

But the rice texture was the weirdest part. It felt half-cooked, but also soft enough to chew. It was not fluffy like normal rice. It was somewhere in between cooked and undercooked, which made the texture confusing.

It does not really taste like sisig and rice at all. Instead, it feels more like eating canned beans with spicy soy sauce. There is also a slightly earthy canned food flavor, probably from the preservatives in the sauce.

It is a bit dry overall, but not bad. It is not disgusting, but also not something I would constantly crave or repurchase often.

My Brother’s Reaction

My brother said it tasted like canned Menudo from Wow Ulam. Honestly, I get it. The sauce has that familiar sweet, tangy, slightly liver-like canned food taste.

He did not like it, but he also did not hate it enough to spit it out. He finished it, but said he would not eat it again voluntarily.

My Girlfriend’s Reaction

My girlfriend noticed the “raw rice” texture immediately. She was not a big fan either, but she did take a couple of spoonfuls.

She said the rice reminded her of short-grain rice they used to eat before. Her reaction was neutral overall. Not good, not bad, just something she would not actively choose.

Price and Flavors

I bought this at SaveMore for around ₱34, with only a small price difference compared to other flavors.

Right now, there are only two variants:

  • Spicy Tuna Sisig Rice
  • Afritada flavor (which I have not tried yet)

If I had to guess, the Afritada version will taste somewhat similar, maybe like 555 Tuna Afritada but with the same canned rice texture.

Nutrition Breakdown

Surprisingly, this is not very high in calories. One can has only 345 kcal, which is relatively light for a full meal.

However, protein is a bit low at only 11g, so it might not keep you full for long. The fiber content is actually decent at 8g, likely coming from the rice.

Sodium is on the higher side at 879mg, which is expected for processed canned food.

Overall, it is convenient, but not exactly a “healthy powerhouse meal.”

Final Thoughts

Overall, I would rate this a 7 out of 10.

Kudos to Century Pacific for trying something new and experimental. This is the kind of product that feels innovative, but not something I would eat regularly. Maybe once every six months at most.

I also feel like it would taste better if I actually heated it up instead of eating it straight from the can like a gremlin.

This is definitely a “lazy emergency meal” type of food. Perfect for situations where you want something ready to eat without cooking rice or preparing anything.

If you do try it, I recommend adding boiled eggs for extra protein and maybe some vegetables on the side to make it more balanced and filling.
