As Record of Ragnarok (Shuumatsu no Valkyrie) Season 3 fully releases all 15 episodes this December 2025 on Netflix, it only takes a few days of watching to finish the three fights. I’m still feeling a bit ecstatic after finishing the latest season a few days ago, and if you’re curious about what happens next or when the next seasons may come out, let’s take a deep dive into it.
Please be advised that this article contains spoilers for Season 3 and the fights beyond it (manga).
A Quick Recap
Before we get into what happens in the next seasons, let’s do a quick recap of everything so far. Feel free to skip this part if you still remember what went down.
Season 1
Released on June 2021
Because of humanity’s immorality and its continuous destruction of the earth (midgard), the gods decide that humanity must be wiped out. Brunhilde, a valkyrie (demigoddess), proposes Ragnarok instead — a 13-round, one-on-one battle between 13 gods and 13 humans, known as the Einherjar, chosen from across history.

If humanity manages to win 7 out of the 13 rounds, they earn the right to exist for another thousand years. To even stand a chance against the gods, the human fighters wield weapons created from the souls of the 13 valkyrie sisters through a process called Völundr, allowing them to inflict damage against the gods.
Those who lose their battles are sent to the void of Niflhel, where their soul and existence are completely erased, unable to reincarnate. For human fighters, this fate also applies to their partnered valkyries.
| Round | Humans | Gods | Score |
| 1 | Lü Bu | Thor | 0 – 1 |
| 2 | Adam | Zeus | 0 – 2 |
| 3 | Kojiro Sasaki | Poseidon | 1 – 2 |
The early parts of the series really highlighted just how arrogant the gods are, confident that humanity does not even stand a chance against them. The tension ultimately ends in a satisfying victory for humanity when Sasaki Kojiro successfully defeats Poseidon.
Season 2
Released on January 2023 (Part 1) and July 2023 (Part 2)

This is where things start to go a bit off-road. Buddha, who was originally part of the gods’ roster, decides to fight on humanity’s side instead. This throws everything out of balance. Humanity suddenly has an extra fighter and forces the gods to bring in another god to take Buddha’s place.
| Round | Humans | Gods | Score |
| 4 | Jack the Ripper | Heracles | 2 – 2 |
| 5 | Raiden Tameemon | Shiva | 2 – 3 |
| 6 | Buddha | Zerofuku | 3 – 3 |
It’s also worth noting that Buddha doesn’t need a valkyrie as his weapon. Since he was born human and later transcended to godhood, he already possesses enough divine power to damage his opponent. This means that aside from being an extra fighter for humanity, there’s also an extra valkyrie. And not gonna lie, he’s easily one of the coolest characters in the entire show (at least in my opinion).
Season two also makes a pattern pretty clear. Neither side is going to dominate without completely exhausting their roster. After all, we want to see epic fights from every fighter, and it’s easy to predict that things will eventually even out to a 6–6 score between gods and humans.
Season 3
Released on December 2025

In season three, the god chosen to replace Buddha is Hades, the brother of Poseidon. As usual, we get plenty of flashbacks from all the fighters, with flashbacks into their pasts and highlighting their personalities and motivations.
| Round | Humans | Gods | Score |
| 7 | Qin Shi Huang | Hades | 4 – 3 |
| 8 | Nikola Tesla | Beelzebub | 4 – 4 |
| 9 | Leonidas | Apollo | 4 – 5 |
Season three teases us heavily with the deeper lore of the Ragnarok universe. We discover that Odin, one of the god fighters, is actually trying to revive the primordial gods. We also get our first real glimpse of Siegfried, a demigod, and learn how he’s connected to the valkyrie Brunhilde. On top of that, we’re introduced to Nostradamus, the only human known to be capable of destroying the Bifröst, the gateway between Valhalla (heaven) and Helheim (hell).
Upcoming Season Release Dates and Fight Predictions
Season 4
Possible Release Date: March – June 2028

Based on the manga, we already have some results for the winners of Rounds 10 and 11. However, things start to get a lot more complicated once we reach Round 12.
| Round | Humans | Gods | Score |
| 10 | Soji Okita | Susano’o no Mikoto | 5 – 5 |
| 11 | Simo Hayha | Loki | 6 – 5 |
| 12 | Sakata Kintoki | Odin | 6 – 6 |
For Season 4, it’s fairly safe to assume that Odin would win, based on the patterns we’ve seen so far. The series clearly wants to exhaust every fighter from both sides before things are decided.
That said, Odin is deeply tied to the larger lore of the story, as we discover that he himself is a primordial god. This connection extends to Siegfried and artifacts like the Treasures of Calamity, Book of Gǫllnir, and Gleipnir. That’s a lot to unpack right now, but here’s my current take on how things might play out based on what we know so far.
The Ragnarok May Not End After 13 Rounds.
Let’s break down some of the history and lore of this world first based on round 12 in the manga.

AI colorized characters and edited text
The Primordial Gods – In the beginning, there were 88 gods, known as the primordial gods. They created everything: heaven, earth, hell, and all the modern gods. At one point, 11 of these gods decided the remaining 77 were no longer needed and sought to eliminate them. This conflict became known as the original Ragnarok. As of now, only one of the 77 primordial gods remains in the current Ragnarok which is Izanagi, the father of Susano’o Mikoto, who fought Soji Okita.
Yggdrasil – The four Primordial Pillars of Yggdrasil were among the strongest of the primordial gods. Odin served as their leader, while the other three members were Satan, Chaos, and Ymir.
The God Slayers – This was the group of 11 gods, including the Yggdrasil members, who wanted to destroy the other 77 primordial gods.
Gǫllnir – This was one of the 77 primordial gods, Gǫllnir was known as the “Great Inventor God” for his mastery of craftsmanship and engineering. His followers, called the People of Gǫllnir, were led by another god named Feldis.
During the original Ragnarok, Gǫllnir created Gleipnir, a powerful tool capable of sealing the god slayers. The sealing was successful, but it required many primordial gods to sacrifice their lives.
Before Yggdrasil was sealed, the four members engraved their runes into treasures or weapons they owned, essentially casting their souls into them so they could revive later. These treasures later became known as the Four Treasures of Calamity/Scourge:
- The Magic Sword Gram (Odin)
- The Necklace Brisingamen (Ymir)
- The Alchemical Bracelets Draupnir (Chaos)
- The Helmet Egil (Satan)
Gǫllnir tried to record the events of this Ragnarok, but the remaining primordial gods opposed him and wanted to erase it from history. As a result, Gǫllnir was imprisoned. He was later rescued by his followers, and before dying, he cast his soul into the Book of Gǫllnir (the Forbidden Book), which contained the history of the original Ragnarok and instructions to revive Yggdrasil.

AI colorized character and AI generated background
The ritual to revive Yggdrasil requires three conditions:
- The Water of Life – the souls of all humanity (meaning humanity would lose the Ragnarok)
- The Treasures of Calamity
- A Vessel – someone capable of handling all the Treasures of Calamity (Siegfried)
Eventually, the sole survivor of the People of Gǫllnir, a young god named Velk, discovers the Magic Sword Gram. He becomes possessed and later reincarnates as Odin. He gathers the other Treasures of Calamity and imprisons Siegfried in Tartarus (a prison for gods, demons, and titans), with his ultimate goal being the revival of Yggdrasil. Nostradamus is then tasked with keeping watch over Siegfried.
In the battle between Odin and Sakata Kintoki, we learn that Sakata is actually a descendant of Eirin, a primordial god and the wife of Gǫllnir. Sakata Kintoki, a human with primordial blood, carries the Rune of Eirin, also known as the Rune of the Primordial Gods.
Season 5
Possible Release Date: June – September 2030

Now that we have some context on the world’s history, the big question for Season 5 is who will battle the last god, Anubis? Will it be Rasputin or Nostradamus? And with only two valkyries remaining, would it be Göll and Brunhilde?
Let’s break this down into two scenarios based on the remaining fighters.
Scenario 1
| Round | Humans | Gods | Score |
| 13 | Rasputin | Anubis | 7 – 6 |
Neither of these fighters has been heavily hyped so far. We don’t even know what Grigori Rasputin will look like yet, even in the manga. If Rasputin ends up winning, it would raise a big question: what happens to Nostradamus, humanity’s “joker” and trump card? Does he not battle at all, or does he face someone else after Ragnarok concludes?
Considering that Round 12 already dives deep into the history of Ragnarok itself, a final fight between Anubis and Rasputin could feel somewhat anticlimactic.
Scenario 2
| Round | Humans | Gods | Score |
| 13 | Nostradamus | Anubis | 7 – 6 |
We’ve already gotten a glimpse of Nostradamus, his personality, his role as the only human capable of breaking the Bifröst (the gateway between Valhalla and Helheim), and the fact that he’s the only human ever imprisoned in Tartarus (the prison for gods, devils, and titans).
This scenario makes a lot more sense, especially since Nostradamus is regarded as humanity’s trump card. It would be logical to have him participate in the final fight to secure victory in Ragnarok.
A lot of people seem to be rooting for humanity, myself included, and I’m really hoping they win. But considering that Odin was one of the masterminds behind this entire Ragnarok, aiming to collect the Water of Life to revive the other primordial gods, he might not accept that outcome so easily.
Also, a single round seems too short to fill an entire Season 5, so it’s likely Odin will intervene to work with his plan. Here’s my take on how this could play out.
Odin still revives the Yggdrasil
Odin being a part of the Yggdrasil group, he is extremely powerful and can create and destroy at will. With the Four Treasures of Calamity at his disposal, what if he simply takes all the souls of humanity forcibly and revives the Yggdrasil group through Siegfried as the vessel, completely disregarding the rules of the current 13-round Ragnarok?

This could set up a modern-day showdown where the remaining gods face Yggdrasil, unified within Siegfried, essentially a new Ragnarok reminiscent of the original one, which was long forgotten in history.
The big questions then would be, who would defeat Yggdrasil? Would it be Nostradamus with Brunhilde as his valkyrie? Could Brunhilde awaken Siegfried as a vessel under the control of the Yggdrasil? Or could we see new characters revealed, perhaps tied to real-world mythologies, like Kriemhild from the same legend where Siegfried and Brunhilde are connected to? Or maybe more information on Beelzebub being the primordial god Satan himself?
There’s still a lot of questions and of course, these are just speculations. There may be more revelations and hidden powers we are yet to see. Humanity might not even win Round 13, or Odin could fall in Round 12.
All I can say is that this show has been incredibly exciting. I can’t wait for Season 4 to get animated so we can witness more epic fights, especially those featuring Okita Soji and Simo Hayha.
What do you think will happen in Round 13? What’s your take?
