ZUS Coffee: Lychee Con Nata Fizz and Australian Chocolate Review

3–4 minutes

ZUS Coffee is a Malaysian coffee chain founded in 2019 and has been aggressively expanding in the Philippines.

One of their biggest promotions for new users is a buy one take one deal on any drink when you order through their mobile app.

App Ordering Experience

I downloaded the ZUS Coffee App and noticed that they offer both delivery and pickup options depending on your selected branch.

My girlfriend and I decided to try it via pickup at Robinsons Manila since we were already there.

One downside is that the app does not support cash on pickup or cash on delivery. You have to pay using e-wallets, bank transfers, or cards. This makes sense since it helps prevent fake or unpaid orders.

We placed a pickup order while we were already outside the branch. Inside, there is a monitor that displays your order status synced with the app, which is a really nice feature.

The waiting time was surprisingly fast. From placing the order to pickup, it only took around 10 minutes, even though the branch was quite busy around 2 to 3 PM.

Lychee Con Nata Fizz

I usually enjoy lychee drinks, so I was expecting something similar to Mogu Mogu lychee drinks.

The drink was good, but a bit too sour for my taste. I ordered regular sweetness, and even with ice, the flavor stayed strong and did not dilute much.

One downside is that the fizz does not last long. By the middle of the drink, it starts to taste more like regular juice.

The nata de coco bits were smaller than what you would find in Mogu Mogu, but they were chewier and had a nice texture. They were easy to sip through the straw.

Australian Chocolate

My girlfriend ordered this drink and had already tried it before. She really likes it.

I recommend choosing the “more sweet” option. The ice tends to dilute the drink, making the first few sips flavorful, but the rest becomes a bit bland.

It tastes somewhat similar to Milo, but without the signature malt flavor. It is not overly milky, but it has a nice level of creaminess.

This is a good option if you enjoy chocolate drinks and want to avoid caffeine.

I Tasted the Rice Straws Too…

As part of their eco-friendly efforts, ZUS Coffee uses edible rice straws as an alternative to plastic.

They look like hollow pasta and soften slightly after being in your drink for about an hour.

Out of curiosity, I tried biting one. It tasted like plain pasta, slightly hard and chewy even after soaking in the drink. There was a slight hint of sweetness, but that may have come from the drink itself.

To describe it simply, it feels like biting into raw spaghetti that has been soaked in water for a while.

Final Thoughts

If you’re availing their B1T1 promotion in their app, whatever drink is more expensive is what you’ll have to pay for.

If you are using the buy one take one promo, you will pay for whichever drink is more expensive.

Overall, ZUS Coffee is a decent option. I would rate the experience a 7 out of 10.

I am not much of a coffee person lately, but their drinks are reasonably priced compared to most coffee shops, making them a good choice for casual buyers.

Have you tried ZUS before? What do you think of their drinks? Which one’s your favorite?
