I’ve recently finished the first season of Sakamoto Days this early January, and it was such an amazing show. Before watching, I already knew it was about a retired legendary assassin who became fat and fell in love but still kept some of his insane assassin skills. He’s like your average person except abnormally powerful without the flexing. I was lowkey expecting this to be just another slice-of-life anime with random shenanigans, but there’s actually a decent plot behind it.
I really love these kinds of anime, when a character is really overpowered but chooses not to show off much for whatever reason, especially when it has that comedic touch. It’s such a dude’s fantasy, and I guess a lot of people are also into niches like this considering shows like One Punch Man (at least the early seasons), That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Eminence in Shadow, and other similar titles that anime fans really enjoy.
The characters are also really interesting. Imagine facing villains who could crush anything, even humans, into literal meatballs. Just the thought of that gives you that exhilarating feeling of how life and death are played out in the show.
Speculations for Season 2 Release
Sakamoto Days: Season 2
Possible release date: May – July 2027
Possibly 22-24 episodes
Season 2 is confirmed in the works from Jump Festa 2026, and a visual teaser has been released as well.
Season 1 aired in two parts: January–March 2025 (Part 1) and July–September 2025 (Part 2). The series was animated by TMS Entertainment, who also worked on Detective Conan, Baki, Dr. Stone, Rental Girlfriend, Don’t Toy with Me Miss Nagatoro, Fruits Basket, and Kamisama Kiss.
Assuming it takes roughly the same production time as Dr. Stone, we can speculate when the next Sakamoto Days sequel might come out.
- Dr. Stone Season 1 – released March 2019
- Dr. Stone Season 2: Stone Wars – released January 2021
- Dr. Stone: Ryuusui – released July 2022
- Dr. Stone Season 3: New World – released April 2023
- Dr. Stone Season 4: Science Future (Part 1) – released January 2025
Based on TMS Entertainment’s usual production gaps (18–24 months), Sakamoto Days Season 2 will most likely release in mid-2027.
Recap on the End of Season 1

The first season of this anime ended with the JCC (Japan Clear Section, a school for assassins) entrance exam results: Shin passed, Sakamoto failed, and one of the school administrators says alumni cannot re-enroll. This is when Nagum“o, one of Sakamoto’s ex-co-workers and previous classmates, proposes an idea. Using his ability to disguise people, he suggests Sakamoto disguise himself as his wife and enter the JCC as a teacher. Remember, they’re infiltrating the JCC to get more information about Slur from the database.
